The overall objective of the Biostatistics Core is to provide rigorous methodological and biostatistical support for the South Carolina COBRE for Oral Health. As specific aims, the Core will provide:

  • statistical collaboration,
  • data management,
  • a web site for the COBRE,
  • assistance in procurement and analysis of existing data from diverse sources to support COBRE studies,
  • mentoring of COBRE investigators in biostatistical research methods,
  • collaboration on an oral health assessment of African American's living on the Sea Islands of South Carolina and adjacent coastal communities, and
  • transfer of recent biostatistical methodologies to oral health research.

The Department of Biometry and Epidemiology at the Medical University of South Carolina has been in existence for 30 years and provides a rich environment in which to develop the Biostatistics Core for the COBRE. The department has over 25 faculty with expertise in epidemiology, biostatistics, and biomedical informatics.
